Is there an ETA on SDL 1.3?

I’ve been meaning to give my tutorials a clean up.

Currently I’m waiting for SDL 1.3 to come out so I can add in new content along
with the revisions, but I would like to make the update within the next 6
months.

Is SDL 1.3 expected to come out within the next 6 months or should I not hold
my breath?

That’s a tough question to answer. I’d really like to get some sort
of official release out in the next 6 months. The Google Summer of Code
crew is doing some great work and there’s a really good foundation already
in place. On the other hand I’m crunching pretty hard on the World of
Warcraft expansion and helping take care of our baby and toddler, so I
shouldn’t promise anything.

That said, you can check out a pre-release of SDL 1.3 in pretty good
state here: http://www.libsdl.org/tmp/SDL-1.3.zip

I would recommend that you take a look at it and see what you think.
I’d appreciate feedback on the new aspects of design and backwards
compatibility, and it should be ready for some early tutorials.

See ya!

Well it’s a good sign that 6 months is even considered remotely possible.

I’m currently working on getting a playable prototype of my next game by the end
of summer. Hopefully by then the GSOC projects should be finishing their work,
and I’ll be able to start my tutorial revisions and testing out SDL 1.3.
