Jack and SDL?

Hey,

is jack supported directly by SDL these days? I know there are
patches floating around to do it, and I know you can route through
alsa or pulse… but is it directly supported by SDL?

If not, I guess it would be a great addition… especially since there
are patches floating around to do it.

There was just a request on the pygame mailing list for Jack+SDL,
which is why I ask. I use the way via alsa myself, but it’d be much
more convenient to do so directly.

cheers,

I don’t think so. I remember years ago we tried a patch and it ended up
having some pretty serious problems. If there are any up to date patches
that dynamically load the jack libraries, we can give it a shot again for
1.3.

Jack and SDL
Went up a DLL
Because they thought they oughta.
Jack segfaulted
And soon had halted,
And SDL parachuted after.

That is one of the reasons why the developer from Braid gave up
on the Linux version back in 2008.

http://braid-game.com/news/?p=364

Only recently was the game ported thanks to Ryan.

If it wasn’t for him, many games would never have been ported to Linux.

Funny enough thanks to Android, Linux is becoming a big gaming platform, but
I bet zero from those publishers will allow their games to be used on a
standard
Linux distribution.

Sadly many enterprises are leechers, using Open Source, but never giving
back.–

Hi,

I found this patch in an email thread after a bit of searching (which I even
replied to, but completely forgot about… haha):

http://forums.libsdl.org/viewtopic.php?t=5682&sid=5f22dd6ed373f5d4ef4d11562553aad7

It seems possible to load jack libraries dynamically (other projects like
Muse are doing it)… so I’ll try updating that patch to do the dynamic
loading dance.
