The list of patents I was following suggested the end date was December this year, but that appears to have been a mistake, and I think you are right. Good news 
We currently do WAV and OGG decoding ourselves, and play with OpenAL-Soft. Is SDL_Mixer a better library for decoding or playback? Iām interested in adding MP3
