NASM assembler access to SDL surfaces in Linux

Hi guys

Anybody got a URL, example code or some info on how to directly access
palletised 8-bit surfaces used in SDL from NASM assembly modules in Linux?

I seem to remeber reading somewhere that NASM has some kind of bug that
prevents this type of direct access?
