Non-YUV overlay surfaces

I just wonder if their either is, or will be, support in SDL for overlay
surfaces in colour spaces other than YUV? If there already is, then I seem
to be incapable of finding a mention in the doc project, so if someone could
point me in the right direction, I’d be grateful!

With respect for concerns related to my application, does anyone know how
common hardware support for these compared to support for YUV? My very old
S3 Virge seems to also support 15 and 16bpp RGB overlays, is that uncommon?

There isn’t at the moment. It is one of the things we’re considering how
to do cleanly with SDL 2.0.
