OT: SDL Facebook group

Hi, I was looking for an SDL group on Facebook. I found one, and was
wondering if it is affiliated with this list.

This really is off topic…

But, my curiosity is killing me. What would be the purpose of a facebook
SDL group?

No joke, I have not clue why anyone would want one.

so everybody can be new age hippys sending spam round the world with pretty
pictures and zombies and movie quizzes and really expensive clunky css
weblayers with the added joy of even more spam like a email telling you you
recived a facebook message in responce to your refusal to recive a facebook
message.

obvioulsy.

I think this thread itself is spam tbh

Hi, I was looking for an SDL group on Facebook. I found one, and was
wondering if it is affiliated with this list.

I think it has been shown that the answer is a resounding ‘no, there
seems to be no major interest in some of the big-uns on the list
participating in a Facebook group for SDL, so it is not, in anyway
affiliated with the group’. I could however be mistaken.

I, for one, have used Facebook since way back ( “way back” being
extremely relative) before it was open to the public and thus an open
forum for spam and vampire/werewolf/pirate/ninja/nascar/quiz
programs. I still use it as a way to keep general tabs on the events
of those who know and to allow them to keep track of me and what I’m
up to; but I, too, wonder as to the practicality and/or purpose of
having a Facebook group (in general, and also more specifically in
reference to the SDL list), as I imagine all pertinent information can
be not only accessed, but done so more efficiently, through this
mailing list.

I am, of course, open to supported arguments to the contrary.

I’ve typically stayed away from those free social interactive groups simply because the only reason I can see for them being free is that the owners are making money off my information somehow. I also abhor getting those messages where it claims that a friend of mine has asked me to subscribe to their account and then admonishes that not to respond may indicate to the friend that I don’t like them. Yep, the best way to get me to respond to something like that is to try to appeal to my sense of guilt.>>> On 1/2/2008 at 8:47 AM, Scott Harper wrote:

Hi Scott, well, my first assumption was that facebook was probably being
used as a collaboration tool for SDL projects. But if the consensus here
is that it is just so much spam, then maybe it is just kids playing with
facebook.

Oh no, don’t make my innocent question the start of a flame war. Really,
please, do not flame over this question.

Better yet… let’s drop the topic entirely.
