Playstation II

Does anyone know if it’s true that the Sony Playstation II will run under
Linux ?

If, YES any comments about porting SDL? (Sam ?)

Would be interesting !!!

Alex

My understanding was that the development station for the Sony PS2 would be
a linux box with stuff like a crosscompiler.–

A port to the PSY(PSX II) would’nt be much different from a port to
the PSX. The only benefit really would be that while you were coding
SDL for PSY you could take a break to play Loki’s latest release. It
would be an icky port anyway unless the PSY gets somesort of keyboard
support.

Given that Metroworks is releasing a free 30 day trial of Codewarrior for
PSX II, could we use that to dummy up a version of SDL for PSX2
quickity-quick?

I believe the answer is no. It’s being developed, and I believe games
are being developed for it, using Linux.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Linux FOR the PSXII came out, since it’s got
all those nifty ports on it, though.

hi`

the PSX2 tools cost a development license (something up to 1/2 a million
I’ve been told) and the development kit around $20.000 so I bet very few
of us will ever see it

Daniel Vogel My opinions may have changed,
666 @ http://grafzahl.de but not the fact that I am right

It would be kinda of hard to test without a dev kit, and if I knew
anyone that had a spare $200,000 I think I could find more productive
things to do with it than blow it on that particular console. Maybe
next year when the home units reach the states someone could try it,
put it on a web page and try to run it with their unit (with the
internet add-on hardware), or if someone just wanted to do a proof of
concept thing they could try to port it to the PSX first (I saw tools
on freshmeat for free PSX binary utilities) and either try that with a
gold CD and the swap method, or with a icky windows based PSX emulator
(bleem comes to mind really fast, but it would probably have to be one
of the ones that can only run a few demos).

I’m planning to do a basic port to the Net Yaroze when I find time,
although this is probably not what you want.

Dude, you have a Net Yaroze? Cool! Heck I’m interested in that port.
