can sdl play mpeg2-4?

Look at smpeg:

SMPEG doesn’t decode MPEG2, just MPEG1.

Try ffmpeg:
http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/

mplayer is a program that decodes with ffmpeg (among other libraries)
and renders via SDL (among other libraries).

By ifself, no. SDL does not do high level stuff such as video playback.

You could use the ffmpeg library (http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/) as a
backend for decoding mpeg 2 or 4 video, then blit it on the screen
with SDL.On Wed, 9 Feb 2005 20:19:58 +0000 (UTC), Golgoth! wrote:

Only thing I’d be worried about with MPEG is the MPEG-LA’s licensing fees…
I’d be tempted to use Ogg Theora (formerly VP3) but that was still in alpha
last time I checked.
I’m already using Ogg Vorbis for background audio - I’ll be damned if I’m
paying FhG for MP3 when there’s an OSS/FS alternative

Does anyone know if there are any patents covering MPEG-1/MPEG-2, or if the
MPEG-LA only covers MPEG-4?
