I have a ATI Radeon 8500 card. I am using MSVC++6 and SDL with OpenGL. I am using the 1.1 OpenGL libs that come with MSVC++. I pulled out this card and got me a Nvidia Geforce 4Ti 4600 card and ran my code on that and all of my tool tip popups for my icons in the system tray and quicklaunch worked fine after escaping out of fullscreen mode. Now on the Radeon 8500 no dice? Its like the drivers are screwed or SDL don’t like ATI’s Radeon card? I had this problem before I bought and returned the Geforce 4Ti card. So its ATI specific or SDL not liking ATI’s drivers? I returned the card due to NO JOKING the games looked better on the Radeon 8500. Textures looked like crap on the Nvidia card. I was quite suprised. Oh well. Saved myself $400. Thanks all.
Hi,
Not sure what your particular problem might be, but I can verify that the
Radeon8500 works just fine in full-screen under SDL using both the ‘as
shipped’ drivers and the latest versions from ATI as of May1 (I think the
drivers are april 22, but I’m not sure). Tested under Win2000 and Win98se
(and on two computer systems).

We have experience with ATI Radeons of various models working with Project
Twilight (SDL+OpenGL) rather well. I say rather well because we’ve mostly
patched around the stupidity in the ATI drivers by now I think. People
with some versions of the drivers are still reporting odd memory trashing
and I don’t think we can fix that, but we’re trying anyway.
When it comes to ATI and Win32 drivers, I am known to blame ATI first and
ask questions later though, so perhaps I’m a little biased against them.
I can’t say I’m much more a fan of them in Linux either. So far they’ve
kinda failed to deliver on all counts for me.On Sat, May 04, 2002 at 07:58:19PM -0500, MARS_999 wrote:

Joseph Carter Hey, that’s MY freak show!
<Culus_> We are also hoping to release a version of linux where shell is
replaced by perl to a large degree. Adding to that, there are a
few of us who would like to see a pure perl platform… PerlOS
