SDL_net: Is mine broken?

Hey,

I’ve been trying to get networking up on WinXP (mingw), but I’ve run into some problems. I built SDL_net myself, so that might have something to do with it. I’m able to connect with myself using “localhost”, but connecting by IP address gives a failure. I tried with a friend and instead of failure it was crashing. So I built Sam’s chat demo to test that (on my single machine). The server outputs: Server IP: 0, 38283
If the host field is zero, does that mean there’s a big error somewhere (probably from my build)? I can still connect on this too, using “localhost”. Does anyone have an idea or a recent WinXP build of libSDL_net.a and SDL_net.dll?

Hi.

Have you tried the pre-built libraries on the SDL site? I’ve used them
with mingw with no problems. http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_net/On Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 2:14 PM, Jonathan Dearborn wrote:

Hey,

I’ve had problems when linking to SDL_net.lib before, but it went through this time. I replaced my lib and dll with the Win32 VC8 devel files, but the same effect occurs: host = 0. I should be able to connect to myself by my IP address, right?

Yes, unless Windows firewall is blocking you. Also try 127.0.0.1

Well, I turned off all my firewall stuff and it still doesn’t work.
Thanks for the ideas. It does connect on 127.0.0.1… Is that just
the loopback device? Any other ideas?
