SDL source and WinCVS

Hi,

I have been a long time follower of SDL. Great library! I normally
just use the latest release, but since I have been using WinCVS at
work, I thought I would try and get the latest source from the
CVS repository on the web. I have had no problem configuring WinCVS
to access a repository local to my machine, but so far I have not
been able to get it to connect to the source on SDL using the info
posted on the CVS page.

If anyone has already done this I would appreciate a brief explaination
of what I need to do to get it to work.

Thanks!

ken, i have a crude little tutorial for wincvs. it is for
hooking up to my own pserver, but it would be quite simple
to change with the respective repository you want as you
follow along. maybe it will help,

Hi,

I tried the steps on your web page and I still get the following
in the WinCVS output window:

NEW CVSROOT: guest at libsdl.org:/home/slouken/libsdl.org/cvs (password
authentication)
cvs login
Logging in to :pserver:guest at libsdl.org:2401/home/slouken/libsdl.org/cvs
cvs95.exe login: failed to open C:\CVS/.cvspass for reading: No such file or
directory
cvs95.exe [login aborted]: fatal error: exiting

CVS exited normally with code 1

I do have the C:\CVS directory created. Not sure what the .cvspass file is.

I will try and set it up to connect to your CVS repository and see if
I still get the same thing. Any other suggestions?

You need to do the cvs login first. That will create the .cvspass file.

Err, I think the ‘cvs login’ is where it’s failing for him. See:

See?

The .cvspass file is where CVS stores your password. You only have to
login the once, and from then on CVS always knows how to get to that
repository. I don’t think you actually want to create a CVS directory
on C:, you want CVS to create those for you.

I still get the same thing. Any other suggestions?

Did you set your “Home” directory (Specified under the Global options
tab when you set your preferences)? Make sure you don’t have a
trailing slash!
