I could probably do it during this weekend. I might need help with what we call ?neutral spanish? but it should be understandable enough.

I can help with reviewing/translating, although my spanish is not very
neutral since I am chilean.

I immediately regret this decision he he. Unfortunately, I didn?t have a much free time during the weekend as I expected, but I did get a bunch of this translated already.?

I?ll probably get a first draft ready tomorrow but I must admit it?s been a lot more difficult than I expected: there are a lot of terms I?d use in english even while talking in spanish, so I don?t really know their spanish equivalent. In any case, I?ll probably ask for help with corrections here as soon as I get the draft ready.

So, first draft it is: https://ivodopiviz.github.io/SDL-2-Migration-Guide/

Yes, it’s GitHub pages, yes, a wiki would be better but I don’t have one
handy. You can see the full Markdown source here:
https://github.com/ivodopiviz/ivodopiviz.github.io/blob/master/_posts/2015-01-25-SDL-2-Migration-Guide.md
(it looks even nicer than the actual website). I’m having trouble getting
syntax highlighting to work, so I’m using standard MD for that.

Please don’t hesitate to send corrections, comments or whatever directly to
me by mail or use the comment system at the website. Technically speaking,
you can fork the website and create an issue / pull request combo. Not
sure how practical that is, but I’ll merge patches alright.

I am going to perform a review check on this later.

BTW, a typical error that just popped to my eyes is to translate "library"
as “librer?a”. In Spanish, “librer?a” is a bookstore, when a library is
actually a “biblioteca”

Yeah, I tend to agree with you. I’m a little torn on this one though, I’ve
seen plenty of sources using the term “librer?a”. Wikipedia, however seems
to favor “biblioteca” for its SDL entry in spanish so I should probably go
with that.

This is a good example of why I don’t read programming stuff in spanish:
lots of different terms for the same thing: “fichero” / “archivo”,
"cliquear / “pinchar”, etc.

And whenever this is pointed out, I also point out that “language” in
Spanish is “idioma”, yet when it comes to programming everybody
translates it as “lenguaje”. Jargon doesn’t necessarily have to
translate the same way as common idiom does.

Honestly I’d argue that when it comes to programming both "biblioteca"
and “librer?a” should be considered synonyms (i.e. just use whichever
you want), the problem is that in practice people end up in a
religious war on which term has to be used and things come to a stall

This is a good example of why I don’t read programming stuff in spanish:

"cliquear / “pinchar”, etc.

Spain for some reason decided that it has to have completely different
terms than the rest of the Spanish-speaking world does (case in point:
“flip-flop” in Spain’s Spanish is “v?scula”… wtf?). This kind of
stuff is also why localization takes into account the region, not just
the language.

For the record, “to click” is a mess to translate. In Spain it’s
"pinchar", in Mexico it’s “clicar”, in Argentina it’s “cliquear”, etc.
I think “hacer click” is more universal but I’m not sure.

Except that ?click? uses english syntax :P?

Personally, I find ?pinchar? and ?biblioteca? absolutely horrendous. Even the Wikipedia entry about SDL at some point used ?librer?a" instead of ?biblioteca?.

In any case, I have much better things to do than fight a language-related holy war. If the guide serves its purpose to make it easier for spanish speakers to migrate to SDL2, then cool

I think it’s a very good start.

If those that speak Spanish can say about small vocabulary issues like
this, we can make a quick decision and post it.

Is it just the translation of “library” and a handful of other things in
question at this point?

IMHO using either term does not hinder the usefulness of the guide.
Usually, even commercial software like VS change their translation of
words such as “library” or “linker” from version to version.–

So should we post it as it currently stands? Unless there are serious
concerns mentioned this week, I’ll do that.

Just FYI, I merged a pull request with corrections, applied some changes talked here at the list, fixed some stuff myself and added syntax highlighting to every code snippet.

Syntax highlighting was the last ?serious? issue I had with the article. The general layout of the blog irks me more than it should, but that won?t be fixed very soon.
