SVGALib

Hi All!
I know svgalib is rare an svgalib application is less portable on
account of svgalib does not support all videsystems but anyway sdl
includes svgalib support. So why only linear modes? there is not too
hard to implement banked modes support (I know banked modes is ancient
but anyway).

What anyone think about svgalib? it dies?–

I hope so  No, seriously, I used to program for svgalib, and I’m glad
that I found SDL to switch, because of the suid-hassles and because only
a few graphicscards are supported with more than the most basic modes.
(at least I had troubles with the two I owned during my svgalib-phase
For the people who don’t run X I hope the fbcon or ggi will take over.
Or are they not yet working good enough to replace svgalib ?

All the best,

After about ten hours of tinkering I haven’t been able to get ANY of these
alternatives to work. I just use X!

the problem is the only real good alternative (please corect me if im
wrong) for console suport is fb and most people dont use it (its got
problems of its own) and it doesnt usualy come as default(with any distors
i know of atleast).

I really hope it does!

X, with DGA2 and Direct Rendering and all that nifty stuff, is becoming
really fast, and all the video drivers hackers concentrate on X much
more than they do on Svgalib, fbcon or GGI.

fbcon seems clean and nice, but hard to use directly (use it through
SDL!), and it was a long time since I played with GGI.–
