I’ve received complaints about vc6 compatibility, i.e. the
SDL-devel-1.2.12-VC8.zip libraries do not work with vc6. I don’t have
vc6 myself, so I can’t verify (or fix) this.
I’ve told people to use 1.2.11 instead as a workaround.

That’s correct, they’re for Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1.
I’ve added VC6 libraries to the SDL download page, and clarified that
Service Pack 1 is needed for the VC8 libraries.

BTW, if someone wants to fix it themselves, all they have to do is
take the SDL source and build SDLmain.lib under VC++ 6.0
