I was trying to find a bug in the XFree86 VidMode extension causing apps
to be unable to switch modes on powerpc, when I noticed that only SDL
apps are affected. Turns out the use of the extension is explicitly
disabled on powerpc and alpha because ‘The alpha and PPC XFree86 servers
are also buggy’. Removing that code, it works fine on powerpc though,
and I have no reason to believe it doesn’t on alpha. I guess this is a
leftover from when there were problems with this extension around 4.0?
The Debian SDL packages will probably soon ship with the attached patch
against 1.2.2 applied, I hope it can also be applied upstream.
