What tools are in use? (Or: where come the little medias from...?)

Hi List!
I just was a bit curiouse, what tools you all are using? Especially
for 3D Design, what applications are you using and what exchange
format? What image apps are used? What sound editors and how
do you playback the sound (mod, midi, wav)? There have to be many
conversion tools out there, written by SDL authors to get all work
putted together…
To make a start, I am using Realsoft3D for 3d design with a (still to
write) custom exporter. My most used image formats are photoshop
(for multilayer, alpha channeled images) and windows bitmap (for
simple 3 channel images). Currently I am only playing “stolen” sounds
in the wav format.

While I -do- realise that this isn’t entirely ontopic for the list…
it’s kind of fun

3D design : 3D Studio Max  (pity there’s no useful opensource ver…)
(still to write plugin, using .3ds currently)
Imaging : The Gimp! easy call. I’m mostly working in png/jpeg
(and mpeg or quicktime for video; quicktime using half-broken
tools I -really- should release soon
Sound : sox, ‘record’ (a small C file I found somewhere), lame
(mp3 format and a -whole- raft of others in testing still)
Music: MIDI or XM… (not worried yet; playback mikmod
or timidity)
GUI : gtk/linux (experimenting with gtk/fb, gtk/windows)
scripting : a mix of python, guile-scheme, and a touch of lisp that
hasn’t yet been ported to guile…

hint : I don’t do windows. Unless I have to. No particular need except
for modelling; currently looking at using 3D studio max.
(explored and rejected lightwave, rhino3d, and a number of other programs
that didn’t make the cut

Character animation : ???. Currently looking to Poser but what else is
out there?

Products : Zero as yet… sigh. Soon, soon…

G’day, eh?
