I had great fun playing with Docking station Beta for Linux on my machine,
which uses X4.1.0 on an ATI RageIIc+ AGP card, but My daughter’s machine has
X3.3.6 due to her S3 Trio64 video card is not supported in the X4.x.x series.
She gets the familiar:
relocation error: /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: undefined
symbol: XF86VidModeQueryExtension
I bought Creatures Internet Edition, hoping the problem would be resolved,
but I still get the same thing.
As several people on this list seem to know, Debian refuse to change their
version of libsdl, due to compiling problems on different arch’s, but I just
want to run this on an i86 machine.
As Creature labs is not going to re-compile Creatures to suit, I HAVE asked
them. Can I re-compile libsdl on my Daughter’s PC to get rid of this problem,
and if so, how? Are there any special things I need to do to compile it
properly to avoid this problem?
As you can tell, I don’t know alot about compiling besides
./configure
make
make install
so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
John Gay
Debian’s SDL packages have been unmaintained for months, but only became
officially so just this weekend. I have maintained my own Debian SDL
packages out of CVS for months, so as soon as I found out that the SDL
packages were now officially needing a new home, I have given them one
immediately!
These packages were compiled for woody:
deb http://people.debian.org/~knghtbrd $(ARCH)/
deb-src http://people.debian.org/~knghtbrd ./
They’re also about as current as current gets for SDL.
I’m working
hard to get these into the archive, but have not yet successfully
convinced Anthony Towns to accept them for release. They MIGHT work
with Creatures, provided that it does not link against dynamic XFree86
stuff produced erroniously by Red Hat. They should work for you, but
since I don’t happen to have Creatures I can’t test it. Please test and
let me know. =)On Tue, Mar 05, 2002 at 11:52:21PM +0000, John Gay wrote:
