XFree86-4.0.1c and smpeg

Jacek Pop?awski a ?crit :

I have problem with smpeg and XFree86-4.0.1c (CVS version).
In 3.3.6 everything was OK, but now I don’t see picture
in gtv or plaympeg window - everything is black there.
But when I choose “double” (zoom) I see good picture.
I use: SDL-1.1.5, smpeg-0.4.1, linux-2.2.17, Voodoo3 2000

Finally someone who have the same problem!!
I also use XFree86-4.0.1, SDL-1.1.5, smpeg-0.4.1
with a Voodoo3 2000, except I use linux-2.4-test7.

so it’s probably bug in XF, but I think we should know what is
used in “normal” smpeg playing, I thought it’s Xvideo or something,
now I don’t know - I think I load all modules in XF86Config

anyway - I have one more problem with this configuration - do you have
tv-tuner-card? when I turn on tv application, then switch to console,
then switch to X again - I see only black screen, until reboot (but system
works)

somebody on video4linux-list told me, it’s can be Xvideo problem… if
anybody know something about smpeg - please help…On Sat, Oct 07, 2000 at 08:42:34PM -0400, Marc Lavall?e wrote:

I have a tv tuner card, but I don’t have that black screen problem.

I noticed something; when I play a movie with plaympeg, the window is
almost black except for a small rectangle at the top left corner, and
its color is changing while the movie plays. Please take a look at the
included screenshot (small section of the top left window at 2X res).

Jacek, I think we’re doomed; SDL developers all have fancy graphic
cards, like Matrox G400 or NVidia GeForce, they don’t play with
those lame OEM Voodoo cards… I’m joking, but it’s true that
multimedia developement depends a lot on the hardware.

can you turn xawtv on, then switch to console, then back to X? if yes,
can you send me your XF86Config?
I have one more question about Voodoo3 and XF CVS - can you start
svgalib application on console, when X is running? my system hangs if
I do it…

yes, I have the same effect

but I think SDL just write picture on screen, it don’t talk with
hardware, but with X… I still don’t know what is “hardware acceleration
in smpeg”

if you have 2.4.0 - please compile tdfx framebuffer, then try plaympeg
with fb, I think it will work, becouse I succesfully play mpegs that
way, and it has nothing to do with X

it’s strange, that everything works normally, except smpeg, I must try
old versions of SDL & smpeg…–
