Y2K error on news.lokigames.com?

I opened up Netscape’s newgroup reader and opened up the
news.lokigames.com server to check and see how the group was doing. Lo
and behold I get a popup with the following error:

Error!
News server responded: \
	Usage: NEWGROUPS yymmdd hhmmss ["GMT"] [<distributions>]

Have to admit…kinda funny. :slight_smile:

Are you sure it would not be a problem with Netscape instead? I have no
problem accesing the newsgroups with knews here.–

Well, it only happened with news.lokigames.com. It didn’t happen with any
of the other news servers I contacted. [shrug] (As a side note, I was
unable to manually reproduce the problem using a telnet to
news.lokigames.com:119 and issuing the command.)

Maybe it’s just the combination of Netscape, Linux, and Loki that produces
the problem. :slight_smile:

I almost thought I couldn’t find a trace of an error, but I was able to
reproduce it.

telnet news.lokigames.com 119

Then type in the following NNTP command.

NEWGROUPS 991229 051139

You’ll get an error. (If you just joined the server you will be passing a
NEWGROUPS date from the year 2000 instead of 1999…that’s why you won’t
see an error.)

The following is a complete log of the transaction:

INN version 2.2.1 does have a y2k bug in it. version 2.2.2 was released
to fix it.
